The main reason we are called upon to replace a roof is due to tile fretting. This is a condition whereby the clay tiles begin to break down back into flakes and powder. We were recently called to a property in Willagee, Perth with this exact problem and as the photos demonstrate the process of tile fretting was in its latter stages to the point were some tiles were eroded all the way through. The only solution for this problem is to replace the roof and the owners of this property always wanted a Colorbond roof so there was no better time than now.
Following shire approval, we installed tie down strapping, triple grips and bugle screws to reinforce the roof frame and prevent it from lifting under strong winds. Next the roof tiles were stripped back and sent off for recycling and new treated pine battens installed. As the roof frame was old, a fair amount of work was done to achieve level and straight battens to ensure a clean level finish for the roof sheeting. Once the roof carpentry was complete, Anticon roof blanket insulation was installed followed by the new “Pale Eucalypt" Colorbond roof sheeting. Finally, custom flashings and a new custom chimney cap was installed to put an end to the redundant chimneys ongoing leak. The roof replacement went smoothly and despite being in the middle of winter we were able to complete the job without the use of any tarpaulins. The transformation was great to see and the clients are thrilled with their new roof, happy to no longer worry about the next storm.
